About
Terlingua Church of Christ
The Terlingua church of Christ is a group of servants bound to one another through Christ and our desire to inspire one another to godly living. Our goal of being ready for the coming of Christ is to be accomplished first in our own lives, then in our local group. All of this is possible because of the Bible’s simplicity and clarity in attitude, purpose, and organization. The Bible, as our sole authority, provides clear guidance on how we should conduct ourselves, what our purpose is, and how our church should be organized.
Unity and Servanthood
Our local church is made up of equally significant individuals, although roles may differ. Each leader’s role is not just to lead, but to serve the rest of the people, demonstrating our commitment to each other. Ultimate authority resides in Christ and His Word. The preacher is to work with the congregation, not for the congregation and not over the congregation. Each member is to teach the Gospel, visit the sick, help the weak, and follow Christ’s example in serving one another.
Leadership and Responsibility
Elders are watchmen of the people of God. As such, the New Testament has specific qualifications for an elder. Each is responsible for guarding members against false teaching, destructive attitudes, and inconsistent living. They are God’s watchmen over souls in the Terlingua area. Deacons are leaders who serve physical needs and also have specific qualifications. We need purity and simplicity in our local church.
