Worship Rooted in Scripture
At the Terlingua Church of Christ, our worship is guided by the simple and enduring pattern found in the New Testament. Each gathering is centered on honoring God through heartfelt praise, prayer, Bible study, and communion. We strive to worship in spirit and in truth — without added ceremony or modern embellishment — focusing instead on the sincerity of our voices, the power of Scripture, and the fellowship we share as believers.
A Gift For You
Our members decided that each visiting family should receive a loaf of homemade banana-nut bread. Individuals bake this bread ahead of time so that we can extend a warm welcome to you.
Acapella singing
Our local church does not use instrumental music during our assembly. Using only a person’s voice to praise may be unique in the religious world today, but it represents our desire to follow the pattern of the first-century church. The New Testament does not have any examples of churches using instruments during assemblies.
The Lord’s Supper is observed in each assembly
You are welcome to participate in remembering the death of Jesus through the Lord’s Supper. 1 Corinthians 15:26 says, “For as often as ye eat of this bread, and drink the cup, ye proclaim the Lord’s death till he come.” Unleavened bread is for all to eat and represents the body of Jesus. After this, the fruit of the vine (grape juice) is provided to all and represents Jesus’ blood. The purpose of this is to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for man.
Collection of contributions
As a visitor, it is appropriate to place your visitor card in the collection plate. The members set aside money from their family budget to give each Sunday. This money helps maintain a place for us to meet and fellowship. It also supports individuals who teach the Gospel and helps fellow believers in need. Once again, the New Testament is the pattern for this activity.
Bible-based preaching
Most sermons last 25-30 minutes and focus on a better understanding of God’s word. The lesson begins with a Bible passage and features ideas to encourage individual growth and accountability. Each visitor is encouraged to study and verify consistency with New Testament scripture.
